Your Friends & Their Gifts

Yesterday, I had a “city day” (we live about an hour outside of NYC) and met up with two of my closest girlfriends.

One friend was in town from California and we met when I first came to the US as an exchange student in high school. The other I met ten years ago and she still lives in the same apartment building my husband and I lived in when I gave birth to Felix, my oldest, almost 9 years ago. Both of these friendships carry so much depth, meaning, and joy because we have watched and accompanied each other through many life phases.

When I was driving home last night, my cup was so full, my perspective refreshed, and my belly and cheeks were filled with smiles and laughs.

What came up for me throughout the day yesterday is this:

What if we start to see each of our friends as someone who is arriving with a gift.

The truth is that each person in your life –in the form of their simple uniqueness– brings a gift to your life.

They might…

→ bring out a certain side of you that has been dormant or you haven't explored

→ offer a new perspective and a better way to see your life

→ inspire you to try on a new way of being

→ shift your energy and open you up

→ remind you of who you really are (instead of who you should be)

→ offer you lightness and laughter over something that felt embarrassing

→ comfort you in a unique way

→ challenge you in a needed way

… there is an infinite number of gifts your friends might arrive with. Fun, right?! 😃

And, similarly, you bring unique gifts to each of your friends.

So let me ask you:

  1. What are some of the gifts your closest friends arrive with?

  2. What gifts do you think you bring to them?

Yesterday, I felt the unique energy that these two friends bring to me so clearly and it felt immensely joyful to think of them (and also myself;)) as a gift.

It allowed me to soak up their uniqueness and receive the full beauty that each of their specialness plays in my life.

I wanted to share this thought with you because the GREATEST POWER in our life is in how we think about things, how we see the world around us, how we interpret situations, and the extent to which we allow ourselves to receive goodness.

Does this resonate with you?

With love as always.

Warmly,

Caroline
