5 ways I feng Shui’ed my house before my birthday (& what happened in the 48 hours after)
It’s no secret (especially to my family and friends who get to hear me IRL :)) that my recent ventures into Feng Shui have been a massive joy to me.
In fact, Feng Shui –making intentional and targeted changes in your home to remove blocks and encourage specific results– has quickly become my favorite way to manifest what I want.
I absolutely love the practice of it.
To me the practice of Feng Shui combines two loves of mine: beautifully designed spaces AND clear, thoughtful intentions.
I’ve made lots of subtle and some not-so-subtle changes in my home over the last year all of which have led me to a place where I feel open, receptive, inspired and 100% convinced of the transformative magic that is available to us.
Here is what I believe:
The architecture of our homes houses who we are AND who we allow ourselves to become.
It holds your past (& the lives of people who have lived there before you!), mirrors back your thoughts and emotions, and sets up the energetic flow that can either hinder or support you in bringing your desires, hopes and dreams into reality.
Over the last year, through all the changes I’ve made to bring my home’s vibration into alignment with my family’s present goals, so many magical things have happened.
That’t why in preparation for my birthday last weekend, I did five specific things to turn up the shui in my life:
1. I bought a new wreath for my front door.
Your front door is know as the mouth of chi.
It’s the way energy finds and enters your home. The front door plays such an important role in Feng Shui because it is basically the way you welcome anything new into your life.
I’ve been wanting to manifest and invite new opportunities that feel creative, rich and sweet, so I found a new wreath that (to me) holds that energy 🌸
2. I made sure my front door is clearly visible from the street.
Along the same theme of working with the mouth of chi: if your front door is hidden, it means that energy, new people, ideas and opportunities cannot find you. That’s why, the day before my birthday, I took time to trim down and prune our bushes that have been growing like crazy in this east coast humidity.
*Note: if your front door is not visible from the street, don’t worry, there are various work-arounds to help good chi find you still 😉
3. I hung a crystal in the career/ life path “gua” (think: area) of my home.
Crystals are known to be chi enhancers that serve to make energetic deposits in the gua you choose to hang it into. Every morning, when I walk up into my office, I give the crystal a little spin and it showers the whole area with magical light, dispersing chi all around my career/ life path gua.
*Note: Guas represent different areas of your home that each stand for a separate life area. The guas are:
Career/ Life Path
Travel/ Helpful People
Children/ Creativity
Love/ Relationships
Fame/ Reputation
Wealth/ Abundance
Family/ New Beginnings
Knowledge/ Wisdom
Health/ Gratitude
4. I planted new, purple flowers as an extension of my wealth and abundance gua.
We recently did some construction in our backyard and had one flower bed that was still empty. It happens to be right outside of the wealth/ abundance gua (think: wealth in all areas of life… health, relationships, financial etc.) of our home.
The color that pairs well with this gua is purple, so I decided to plant purple-ish flowering bushes in that area to naturally enhance the positive flow of abundance in my family’s life.
Bonus: I can see the bright flowers popping up right outside of my kitchen window, which brings me immense joy ☺️
5. And lastly, I cleared and cleaned all flat surfaces in the downstairs area.
Horizontal surfaces are seen as landing strips for new ideas, connections, and opportunities. If your surfaces are cluttered, ideas cannot land and if they try, it sets the stage for a rough landing. Keeping the clutter to a minimum and making sure your surfaces are open ensures that there is enough space for your new desires, ideas and dreams to come in effortlessly and smoothly.
✨ Here is what happened within the first 48 hours of implementing these simple strategies:
Not one but three new opportunities landed in my inbox. The first was a request to teach a creative, mindfulness workshops to a population I’ve never worked with before but that I’ve always been interested in. The second was an invitation to write a short story from my real life on a specific topic and read it aloud at an event in front of an audience in NYC. And the third was an ask from a friend to feng shui her home and help her overcome a few obstacles in her life.
Here is my take-away for you:
Your spaces matter! The energy you wake up to, live in, and go to bed in influences you unconsciously 100%. While Feng Shui-ing your home won’t replace doing inner work, overcoming limiting beliefs, and getting clear on your life desires, it sets the stage so that new thoughts can stay, so that a new self-image can grow roots, so that new ideas and opportunities can flow through your life effortlessly and with ease.
Feng Shui takes your inner work to the next level and amplifies it by bringing your space into the vibration of where you want to go. It removes blocks and makes your life receptive to the changes you want to see by creating an energy of luck and prosperity all around you.
