Self Quest: If you could learn something new, what would you like to learn about?

Earlier this week, I took my 5-year old daughter to NYC for the day. She'd been asking for a “mommy-Zoe day in New York" for a while, so I decided to use this time before she starts Kindergarten in the fall to make her little wish come true. We had the best time because Zoe's superpower is tireless enthusiasm coupled with an endless willingness to quest for the best treats in town (like mother, like daughter)

While we were in the city we met up with a few friends and as we were catching up, I shared that I recently signed up for a Feng Shui course. While I was talking about the course and some of the things I've been learning and implementing in my home, it struck me how happy learning makes me.

Diving into a fresh topic with child-like curiosity and immersing myself deeply into a new subject gives me such.immense.joy.

I notice that when I wear the shoes of a student I shift how I think about and see the world around me as well as myself. In fact, it's kind of strange to think about all the things that exist but that are completely invisible to us –until we learn about them and notice them for the first time.

I love the feeling of sparkly, thirsty curiosity coursing through my veins… that moment when I really “get” a new concept and curiosity turns into knowledge.

It's such a good feeling

So, let me ask you:

  • If you could learn something new, what would you like to learn about?

  • If you could master one new skill, what would it be?

  • What are you curious about that you wish you understood better?

Important note: I notice that many people think of learning something new (especially if it's not applicable to work, money, or parenting) as a luxury –reserved for times when there are no other obligations or challenges.

I couldn't disagree more.

Learning is form of

→ staying alive and lively

→ vibrant and interesting

→ engaged and clear.

It's a form of self-discovery (going deep) AND self-expansion (flying high).

Learning –being new at something– and being a student is also humbling… it's the opposite of being stuck in your old ways and a great way to stay young, dynamic and fun. Who doesn't want that?

So, give yourself a little push and truly ask yourself:

If you could learn something new, what would you want to learn about?

As always, you can take this week's question and simply reflect on it on your own, you can use it as a journal prompt (very powerful ), or you can go on a walk with friends and discuss it in a group (builds connection ).

If you like, share with me what you'd like to learn about more. I always love hearing from you:)

With love as always,

Caroline
