3 key aspects for a thriving fertility
The majority of women I know spend the better part of their teens, twenties, and even early thirties terrified of getting pregnant accidentally. So much of our efforts go into trying to avoid pregnancy for so long that many women find themselves surprised that getting pregnant when they are ready is actually not as easy as they once thought.
I was one of those women who spent 15 years of my life on some sort of hormonal birth control just to discover that I had had an underlying hormonal imbalance that the pill had been masking (or perhaps created).
I was stunned at first and scared eventually that my period was nowhere in sight. While my OB told me to simply go back on birth control (yes really!), I deep down knew that this was not a solution to the hormonal imbalance that my body was showcasing. Instead I turned to learning about natural ways of hormone balancing that utilizes food as well as other holistic techniques like mindfulness and visualization.
It took me over two years of actually understand my body and heal it from years of being under external hormonal influence (an IUD and the pill) as well as tons of self-imposed stress and nutrition that I thought was good for me but actually wasn’t as hormonally friendly as I thought.
It was a tough but incredible journey that ultimately brought me much closer to the woman I am and finally allowed me to get pregnant when I was ready.
The key, I found, to happy baby-making is what you do preconceptionally. I learned this the hard way, which is why I now focus on helping women to bring their bodies -and lives!- into harmony before they actually want to conceive.
This is obviously a very rich and multifaceted topic and the journey does look different for each woman, but here are 3 key areas to look into if you want to prepare your body to create life in the future:
Listen to your symptoms and find out what they actually mean on a hormonal and emotional level. An absent period does not mean the same as a painful period. Acne and skin issues do not necessarily hint at the same issues as bloatedness and headaches during your cycles. In other words, rather than hating on your symptoms, start to be curious about them, listen to what they are trying to tell you, and consult with an expert who can help you decipher your personal experience. Use your menstrual cycle is a window into your hormonal state and thus your fertility.
Embrace a blood-sugar-balanced way of life. So many of us think they are eating healthy, when in reality their blood-sugar levels are riding a daily (often even hourly!) rollercoaster. If your body has to work super hard to balance your blood-sugar without getting any loving assistance from how, when, and what you consume, it will be really difficult for it to rev up the life-creating energy it takes to have a healthy period and eventually conceive successfully.
Begin to visualize yourself as the pregnant glowing woman you want to be one day. Visualization and manifestation are incredibly powerful tools when it comes to creating the reality we desire. Spend some time each day tuning into your body and connecting with the mother within yourself. Feel into her. See her. In my experience as a coach, creating an intimate connection with the parts of ourselves that we want to see come forth is the most beautiful way to invite life into our life. Why? Because it creates the trust and positivity that what you desire is actually possible for you.
In the comments below, I'd love to hear your thoughts and reactions. How you can start to implement one of these tools in your own life in order to improve your fertility and ultimately your life.
